School Policy Guide

Arrival

Students may begin entering the school at 7:20 a.m.; school officially starts at 7:35 a.m. Students arriving after 7:50 are considered tardy and must obtain a late pass from the office. We ask parents/guardians to remain outside the school and let their children walk through the doors by themselves. Students arriving after 7:35 must enter the building through the main entrance on Sequoia Trail.

Dismissal

School dismisses at 1:10 p.m. on Monday and 2:35 p.m. Tuesday-Friday. There are a few other early release days during the school year; please refer to the District Calendar for details. There is no after school supervision. Students not riding the bus or walking are to be picked up on time when school dismisses.

Please call the Lincoln school office at (608) 204-4900 and select the attendance option to report a student absence. Absences can also be reported online.

Our goal is that all students attend school at least 94% of the school year. Not reporting an absence will result in an unexcused absence. Absence notifications should be submitted by 8:00 a.m. We want to make sure every child is safe and accounted for each school day. If we have not heard from you, we will call you so please ensure the contact information we have is accurate.

To ensure buses do not leave without a student, we use a bus checklist at the end of each day. If your child resides in a bus transportation neighborhood we assume they will ride the bus unless you notify us otherwise. If your child will not be riding the bus, please call the office to inform us.

First View Transportation App – First View provides location data via GPS tracking, and sends notification alerts when a student’s bus is getting close. It can be used to track all of the students in a household/associated with a caregiver account. It’s the easiest and fastest way to get answers to questions like, “When will the bus show up?” and “How can I see when my child will be picked up or dropped off?” Please visit https://www.madison.k12.wi.us/transportation/firstview-transportation-app for more information and for instructions on getting started.

MSCR provides after-school care at Lincoln for Kindergarten through 5th grade. Program information and how to register can be found on the MSCR website.

We ask that you call the school office at (608) 204-4900 to inform us if you plan to pick your child up early for any reason. For safety reasons, we do not allow students to walk home during the school day; you must come to pick your child up. When you arrive, please park on the north side of Sequoia Trail and come up the stairs and ring the buzzer to let the office know you are here. We will communicate via intercom with you and have your child meet you at the door. Please remember that anyone picking up a student must be authorized and listed in Infinite Campus. Parents/Guardians must notify the office in advance if you plan to have someone else pick up your child for any reason.

Families play a key role in school safety. We believe that it is beneficial for families and the community to engage in our students’ education. We also want to provide a safe and comfortable environment for our students to learn. If you plan to visit, please pre-arrange your visit with the classroom teacher. The teacher will communicate with the office about your visit. Tuesday-Friday 7:20-2:35

Each student will be assigned a locker to hold their belongings. We ask that students keep personal toys at home, unless there is a special event in their class. Students are not allowed to use personal electronic devices during the school day. They may carry them in silent or off mode. Lockers at elementary schools are NOT locked.

We have a fantastic building and grounds that support our students’ learning and play. We have a playground, soccer field, outdoor learning area and a community garden on property. Our building is maintained by a skilled set of custodial staff as well as by the district.

For safety reasons it is imperative that children only cross the street at designated crosswalks. Parents/Guardians picking up their child(ren) should wait either by the flagpole on Sequoia Trail or in their cars on the south side of the street. No one should drive through or park in the bus lane or staff parking lot.
